Well, we were able to 'enjoy' the last of the cold weather before moving into our warm season. Amazing group of trainees. It was a very gratifying experience for all to go from our theory classes at the shop, deliver custom Freewind Precision Hunter Rifles and being out at the range.
We spend a lot of time up front working through developing a proper zero, large sample size for muzzle velocity and establishing 20 to 30 round shot groups. It's important to spend the time on this before moving out to the long range.
The Spring '25 class did a great job. Getting proper rifle fit and exercising the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship went very well.
With a rock solid foundation obtained at the zero range we moved to the long range and things got fun in a hurry. The class was able to immediately begin building range cards and using the tools and techniques that had been covered in classroom/theory to start building firing solutions.
An entire day of progressively increasing ranges saw the entire class able to range, make wind calls and have first round hits on targets out to 650 yards.
With solid fundamentals and shooter confidence established the next morning brought a great big breakfast followed by an individual shooter stress test. Shooters were briefed on the course of fire and then forced to exercise their skills on the clock. No, we aren't going to say what the stress test was, you have to come shoot it yourself!
With the individual test done we regroup and cover challenges and opportunities for each shooter individually. Having the low student - instructor ratio is very beneficial here.
For the last hours of the course the team was fully self sufficient. Ready to exercise their skills at all ranges. Ultimately the whole team was on target at 1000 yards and making consistent first round hits at all distances inside of that.
Big thanks to the Spring '25 class. Glad you are now Precision Hunters and part of the Freewind Outdoors team.
See you in the field!
