Another awesome group of trainees out at the course. We are really fortunate to to have shared this Precision Hunter course experience with this group.
Two great guest instructors, both Marine Snipers, brought a wealth of experience to the effort. Thank you both gentlemen for your time and effort. Everyone appreciates it.
The Summer 1 course gave us a challenge with the heat and the swirling Texas Hill Country wind gusts. The guys definitely earned their hits. First day on the flat range we really worked out our zeroes and dispersion. Coaches took a lot of time with the guys ensuring proper rifle fit and detailed, high round count MVs to really set us up for success the next day.
After a great dinner the class got to relax with some tasty beverages at the swimming pool and enjoy the Texas sky. (sorry Spring 25 class, was too cold for ya'll but there has to be some reward for putting up with the heat of the Summer classes). That night's theory class focused on the basics of optics theory and external ballistics. We covered the basics and inputs for our calculators to ensure we could kick off the next day ready to create firing solutions.
The next morning brought a big Texas Ranch breakfast and it was off up to the long range. Trainees paired up and had lot's of one on one interaction with instructors getting set up for a long hot day of practical shooting. Everyone began with working out the optics and rangefinders hard identifying targets and building range cards. With targets big and small scattered all over the countryside at ranges from 140 to over 1300 yards, it's a serious task. Learning the challenges and limitation of rangefinders at distance is a key skill for the Precision Hunter.
The team quickly was able to master building firing solutions and figuring out the wind out 650 yards before lunch. After a hearty lunch we fought off the Z-monster and got back onto the range and started exercising the fundamentals at progressively longer ranges. Always great to see the smiles and satisfaction as shooters achieve goals. After thoroughly punishing all the targets at all ranges we switched to practicing nine different shooting positions to get comfortable with the various proper techniques that will be necessary in the field as a precision hunter.
After another great dinner, laughs and refreshment we tackled terminal ballistics theory to deep dive what it's all really about as a precision hunter. Then it was time for rest and relaxation to be ready for the morning stress-test-shoot.
Once again we wont give it away here but needless to say the final morning brought a test that put all the things we learned to the test. After the stress test we performed a science experiment to get some hard data on external ballistics/trajectory. The remaining hour on the range was one on one with anyone wanting to follow up on some goals or work on specifics anyone felt they needed.
We finished up the course with a good hot wash and course feedback. The class gave amazing feedback that we will be incorporating into both future Precision Hunter courses as well as the upcoming Advance Precision Hunter Course.
Congratulations to the Summer 1 '25 Course. You guys did amazing. Thank you again for attending. Thanks for becoming Precision Hunters and we'll see you in the field!
